I am having trouble understanding how exactly this code works:It is supposed to count the number of digits in the int variable. I don't get how the while loop is working. Does the loop just go to zero and stop by default? Also, why is the length starting at 1?

Running my test code below it appears that calling a threads method while it is still executing runs the method between the threads current execution. What I'm wondering is what is exactly happening?
I can run a piece of code for 5 or 10 seconds using the following code:The code runs just fine for 5 or 10 seconds. But when I replace the period value by 60 for it to run for a minute, the code never stops. What is wrong?
